Viscosity wins 3rd Place at Z-Fest Film Fest!
So the adaptation of Jedidiah Ayres story "Viscosity" has screened as a part of the Twin Cities Z-Fest and won 3rd Place out of 46 teams originally signed on which was trimmed down to 32 that made it into competition. The film screened with a lot of well crafted films and it was an honor to share the screen with them. Besides winning 3rd place Viscosity's Art Director was nominated for Best Of as well as actor Sam Landman. Viscosity will be making the film festival circuit soon so we'll keep you updated.

Viscosity production and trailer
We're proud to announce that we have completed production for our adaptation of Jedidiah Ayres' short story Viscosity and we're proud as hell of it. Viscosity has been produced for Z-Fest, a Minneapolis festival and competition which will be screening its films in later March. We'll post some production still later as the film screening approaches but for now we want to show off our trailer which is part of the Z-Fest competition as well. It's a bit adult but hopefully you can handle it. Please follow this link to "Like" the trailer on Facebook for the competition. (fyi there is a bit of a problem with the FB link and to vote you will have to temporarily disable your FB security browser. Sorry for the complications) Enjoy folks.

Filming Begins on "How to Jail"
Here are some pictures from the set of "How to Jail," the adaptation of my short story directed by Paul von Stoetzel and starring Peter Christian Hansen as "Henry," Clarence Wethern as "Willis," and Katharine Moeller as "Kelly." Paul is filming this weekend, and the pictures look amazing. Check back to see more stills as Paul sends them along, and with luck we'll get more info about each picture. Really wish I was there, but these great pictures from set photographer Richard Molby will have to do.
Remember, you can still contribute to help defray the costs of the production, using the "Donate" button on the right of this page. Donating will help us cover the very modest costs of the production, and allow Paul to get the film out for wider distribution. You can still get some cool stuff, too, including signed copies of my books, a mention in the film, and even credit as a producer.

"How to Jail" Production is a GO! And Trailer
So after a lot of setbacks and aggravation we are officially going into production for Dennis Tafoya's "How to Jail" at the end of this month. Yeah, I know- about damn time. So THANK YOU to everyone who helped out and hell, THANK YOU to anyone who even dropped a line to show us some support. We appreciate it greatly.
So to celebrate this here's the full trailer for "How to Jail" featuring Peter Christian Hansen as "Henry".
Directed by Paul von Stoetzel, Cinematography by Joe Johnson, Produced by Chris Buekers
P.S We are still looking to expand Brute Force Films so it's a legitimate (well...) place for film folks and writers to meet and talk about projects. Dennis and Paul want this to be a good, open place for dialogue and hooking up producers to writers. We'll have a lot more information about "Jail" in the next few days.

More News on 'How to Jail' Production
Director Paul von Stoetzel sent along these cool pictures from the storyboard for the film 'How to Jail,' and more information about the actors portraying Henry and Willis.
Willis will be played by Ryan Parker Knox. Ryan is still just getting his feet wet in the local independent film industry. He was seen in a 2009 48-film Festival Group Winner for Audience Favorite in One Light Collective's "Emerald" an recently in Todd Cobery's chilling short "Good Morning Beautiful". A few industrial films and training videos aside, RPK sticks primarily to the stage in the Twin Cities having performed all over town and in a few regional theatres. In summer 2011, he'll travel to Bemidji, Minnesota, for his 5th summer as an acting company member for Paul Bunyan Playhouse, appearing in leading roles in both "Lend Me a Tenor" and "The Full Monty" among others. Ryan is excited to be working along side an old comrade in Peter Christian Hansen, with whom he has done at least a dozen plays for St Paul's Gremlin Theatre and Park Square Theater. "How to Jail" marks Ryan's 3rd time working with Paul von Stoetzel., having performed a staged adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" around Halloween 2008 as well as Hardcover Theater's Absolute Pulp, which Paul von Stoetzel was a director.
Paul says he'll be shooting with the acclaimed Red camera, used for major releases like Fair Game, The Social Network, Blue Valentine and Green Zone.
I'll be out in Minneapolis for the fundraiser on February 18th, which should be a great event.

UPDATE: "How to Jail" in Pre-Production
![]() |
| Director Paul von Stoetzel |
Paul von Stoetzel has written/directed several films and plays in the Twin Cities area including the award winning short H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, Asleep in the Deep and Von Convex. His first feature documentary, SNUFF: a documentary about killing on camera has won numerous awards while also receiving major North American distribution. His most recent documentary, Scrap, a feature documentary about two eccentric builders and their bizarre structures, is traveling the film festival circuit as is his first short documentary My Friend Root Rot and short horror film Dinner Date, both of which have already won several awards. He is currently in post production for a new literary adaptation to film; H.P. Lovecraft’s The Curse of Yig.

| Peter Hansen, "Henry" |
Matthew Feeney has come on as Casting Director as well as Special Wardrobe and Tactical Advisor. Matthew is also an actor and owner of Walden Entertainment. Some of Matthew’s recent casting credits include Phasma Ex Machina, Fall Into Me, Icebreaker, and Turnipseed (starring Larry Gilliard Jr). As an actor, Matthew has appeared in well over 400 on-camera projects, including The Gayle Whitman Show, FRASIER and WCCO’s Out & About with RJ Fritz.

| Ryan Knox, "Willis" |
Peter Christian Hansen and Ryan Parker Knox have been signed to play Henry and Willis. Peter and Ryan have worked together before in theater projects and have an amazing chemistry that should add an important dimension to "How to Jail."
Also, we're starting a big push to raise money. Paul, Chris and Matthew have done an amazing job of lining up incredible deals on props, locations, etc, but we do need about six grand to shoot, so please contribute whatever you can, even very small amounts will help.
We also have a date for a fundraiser. I'll have more details, but we'll be doing an event in Minneapolis on February 18th. There will be special raffles and a chance to meet the cast and crew.

Welcome to Brute Force
This is the site for the Brute Force Film project. The purpose of the project is the production of innovative, affecting and well-crafted crime movies. The project is the creation of Paul von Stoetzel of Killing Joke Films and crime writer Dennis Tafoya. We’re looking for collaborators, partners and investors. We want to make small films on reasonable budgets and help other filmmakers and writers do the same.
Our first project is a short film, “How to Jail,” based on my short story of the same name, which appeared in CrimeFactory, the online crime magazine published by Keith Rawson, Cam Ashley and Liam Jose.
The film is being shot in Minnesota by Paul and his producer Chris Bueckers. We’re trying to raise about six thousand bucks to shoot the film. We hope you’ll use the paypal link to give us a couple of bucks, and encourage your friends to do the same. We’re not going to make any money on a short film, but we are creating what we hope will be a real community of filmmakers, writers and artists that will go on to keep creating interesting, exciting content.
Watch this space for news, links and pics from the short film, and let us know about projects you're working on or trying to get off the ground.
